Beatriz e Henrique casaram no dia em que ela fez 21 anos. Henrique, oficial de marinha, passava largas temporadas no mar. Em terra, Beatriz, que aprendeu tudo com a verticalidade das plantas, cuidou das raízes dos 6 filhos. O filho mais velho, Jacinto, é meu pai e sonhava poder um dia ser pássaro. Um dia, subitamente, Beatriz morre. A minha mãe não morreu subitamente, mas morreu quando eu tinha 17 anos. Nesse dia, eu e o meu pai encontramo-nos na perda da mãe e a nossa relação deixou de ser só a de pai e filha.

That is something that intrigues me and that I delved into during creation, however, I don't want to give any explanations about it, I like to put the cards on the table, and let the audience play. Amor Fati vai ao encontro de partes que se completam. São retratos de casais, amigos, famílias e animais com os seus donos. Partilham a intimidade dos dias, os hábitos, as crenças, os gostos e alguns traços físicos. A partir dos seus rostos e da coreografia dos gestos, descobrimos a história que os enlaça. Assente na vida quotidiana, o filme desenha diante dos nossos olhos um coro de afectos e da memória colectiva de um país, convocado o discurso de Aristófanes no Banquete de Platão: “Não será a isto que vocês aspiram - a identificarem-se o mais possível um ao outro, de forma a não mais se separarem noite e dia? Se é essa a vossa aspiração, estou disposto a fundir-vos e soldar-vos numa só peça, de tal modo que, em vez de dois, passem a ser um só.”
Amor Fati seeks out parts that complete each other. These are portraits of couples, friends, families and animals with their owners. They share the intimacy of daily life, habits, beliefs, tastes and even some physical traits. From their faces, from the choreography of their gestures, we unveil the story that entwines them. Drawn from everyday life, right before our eyes the film portrays a chorus of affections and the collective memory of a country, summoned Aristophanes' speech at Plato's Banquet: “Isn't that what you aspire to - to identify each other as much as possible, so that you no longer part ways night and day? If that is your aspiration, I am willing to merge and weld you in one piece, so that, instead of two, you become one. ”
